Dancing and Mothman

Hey folks, I almost let another two months come and go between new blog posts! Sorry about that. There's a lot going on.

First and foremost on the art front, I've started a new painting series inspired quite heavily by the dance classes I've been taking this year. This first one is called Free From the Binary, guess what it's about:

And second we have this more directly dance-inspired one called Freedom of Movement:

I have more in mind, of course, so this is just the beginning.

In important personal news: I AM NOW ENGAGED. We went to the beach for a solid week this month, and while there I awkwardly proposed to my girlfriend at one of her favorite places to visit, Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach State Park, and she awkwardly said yes! We're both pretty thrilled. Here's the moonstone engagement ring I got her, along with some shark's teeth because finding and collecting teeth was our favorite beach activity:

A bunch of other stuff has been happening too. For one, my days at my regular job are numbered. Very soon (although later than I was hoping), I'll be quitting in an attempt to do art full time. This is...a little bit terrifying, but it's also exciting and I've been eager to do this for a long time now. The timing has never really been quite right, but I've got enough money saved to give it a shot!

I can't do it alone, obviously. Now's a pretty great time to commission work from me, if you've ever been considering it! Or you can subscribe to my Patreon for frequent updates on what I'm working on, support me thru Ko-fi, share my work on social media, or even buy something on Gumroad!

I'm going to be giving this website an overhaul too, if I can. At the very least, the name and URL will be changing, which also means new banner, new business cards, etc. I'd like to have a dedicated shop page here on the site, but I'm using an older version of Squarespace where I can't, so I'll have to do some digging to see what I can do. I don't really WANT to lose this blog, but...who knows!

OH. UPCOMING EVENTS: I'll be at the first annual Bristol in Bloom art festival on October 9th! After that, you can find me at this year's FRAG-O-WEEN show in Kingsport, TN! Finally, on December 12th I'll be set up at the Timber Nocturnal Art Market in Johnson City, TN! I'm really happy to be doing events again, for real.

(also: I'm going to be participating in an actual dance performance at Night Owl Circus Arts in November?! So that's something I'm really focused on right now)

With two October shows on the way, I realized I needed some spooky new work to sell, so allow me to present to you my own new take on Mothman, which I'll be selling prints of:

And that's it for now. I know I've left some things out: we had figure drawing in person once again earlier this month at a friend's house, which was wonderful, but most all of my drawings from that night were pretty bad, haha. Take care, and I'll try to remember to write again soon!
