Embodied Art Dance was founded in 2022 by Eva Alom, Brett Marcus Cook, and Devorah Daught. Inspired by dancing during figure drawing sessions, the three artists began to imagine what would happen if they blended dance and figure drawing as a performance. From these visions Embodied was born! Embodied is primarily inspired by the spirit of the interconnected physical culture, wellness, and expressive are movements of the early 20th century, as well as the work of Pina Bausch, Philip Glass, Isadora Duncan, Andrei Tarkovsky, and others.

The performance that solidified what they want to do as a company was the Old, Old, Story of Love, performed in 2022 at ALL the FEELS, a mental health benefit show by Meraki Movement Studio. The performance combined improv dance with live art, as Brett portrayed a metaphysical force inspired to draw two lovers after bringing them together.

Their first show as Embodied was Within the Body, performed in 2023 at the Philosopher's House in Johnson City, TN. The show included a reprise of the Old, Old Story of Love, new solo dances, storytelling, an improv dance that included drawing on large canvas, and ended with a quick figure drawing session for the audience to join. That year they also held a figure drawing session onstage in Cumberland Square Park as a part of the Bristol in Bloom Art Festival.

The next year, 2024, they held all new performances in a show call CorpoReality, held at the Reece Museum during their Embodying Culture: Women in Appalachia exhibit. Much like Within the Body, Eva, Brett, and Devorah were joined by other performers, and once again held a figure drawing session with the audience after the performance.

2025 has made it difficult for the group to get together and so no new shows are currently being planned, but they did get together for a figure drawing workshop in August led by Brett at the Bristol Public Library, and hope to do more like it in the future!
