Punks Pouncing on 2022
Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 1:20PM Hey everyone! Happy new year! I have a lot to tell you about today.
First thing's first: Richard Graves and I are teaming up for a daily art challenge in February, which we're calling Pouncepunk! Here's the prompt list:
We're mostly pushing it on Instagram, and have gotten a pretty great response so far from artists who are interested in joining in. Promotion has also helped me gain followers, reaching 1000 today! I've been on Instagram for...probably a decade at least, and I only just hit that count, haha. So that's nice!
I haven't done a daily art challenge since 2017, so I know I'm rusty. I've been making thumbnails, and I've started some pieces ahead of time too, just to be sure. I've gotta nail all 28 days, so that's where my focus is right now. I've already set up a new gallery on this site, so that's where pieces will be uploaded!
My primary hope is that with a growing audience and such, that it'll help me really start making a living from art. I just launched my Etsy shop last week, with a variety of comics, prints, and social justice kaiju sticker and button packs available, so go check that out! If you subscribe to my Patreon, you get a free discount! Everything you see in this post was posted there first, so if you want early looks at everything I'm making, especially this year, that's the place to go.
Or if you just want to throw some money my way for no reason, there is of course my Ko-Fi as well.
(I'll be up front here: so far, things are moving slow. I have only made roughly $80 this month so far, and while I'm not in any financial trouble, I'm certainly going to need more help if I'm going to be able to actually make a living from art, so any little bit will help!)
Of course, Defining Bodies is still chugging along. I hosted a meetup two or three weeks ago, which was a great way to kick the year off, and we've been getting some good poses for our Discord server too.
And I've gotta keep drawing kaiju too, right? So here's a 1998 Godzilla that I did:
Hmm, let's see, what else...
I joined the Abingdon Arts Depot a couple weeks ago, and will be submitting pieces for some upcoming shows they have, including one next month.
I'm confirmed for the return of ETSUcon this year, April 2nd and 3rd. I've applied for another show at the end of April, and there's a possible dance performance thing I'll be involved with too, so that'll be a busy month.
I maaayyyyy be having a solo show somewhere in May? Hopefully? And another performance thing I may be involved with? We'll see!
There are other potential future things I've got my eye on too, but they're maybe too vague to bring up at the moment.
So yeah, things are really kicking off, and I've got a fairly good daily routine going, working on various things that I'm just not making money from yet, haha. But I've got all year to make it work, right? I think.
Let's hope it's a better year. Take care, y'all!
